Sitting with the President
In association with the Presidential Archives, “Sitting with the President” offers visitors a unique opportunity to delve into the lives of America’s Founding Fathers, with a special focus on George Washington.
The exhibit has been thoughtfully curated to provide a cursory glance into the early governmental workings and personal artifacts associated with these historical figures.
“Sitting with the President” features a collection of period-specific museum pieces that might have adorned the presidential desk of George Washington. Complimenting this artifacts are high-quality reproductions of George Washington’s early governmental writings. These documents offer invaluable insights into the formative years of the United States. All these pieces together provide a tangible connection to the past.
In celebration of the 4th of July and the summer season, the exhibit features a special display titled “Barbeque with the President.” This case is filled with commemorative pieces related to the Presidents, adding a festive and educational dimension to the exhibit.
Adding to the exhibit's richness are portraits of the three presidents and Founding Fathers who passed away on the Fourth of July—an intriguing historical coincidence, with two of them dying just five hours apart on the same day.
The centerpiece of the exhibit is an authentic signature of George Washington from 1793, a rare and precious artifact that adds a profound historical significance to the collection. This piece is part of the Presidential Archives, which boasts signatures from every U.S. President, alongside numerous other objects of historical importance.
