Studio Art Quilt Associates
on view until March 10, 2024
The Ellen Noël Art Museum hosts its current exhibition on loan from the Studio Art Quilt Associates, entitled “Gastronomy.” This collection is on view with free admission from December 7, 2023 - March 10, 2024. Please join us for MUSEUM UNCORKED: A NIGHT OF ART & WINE in conjunction with this exhibit on March 8, 2024.
Gastronomy is the study of the relationship between food and culture, featuring not only the bountiful gifts from nature, but a gift from the human hand. The art of preparing unique, delicate food is a tradition passed from generation to generation around the world. It combines innovative ingredients, colors, textures, and flavors to create dishes that are pleasing to both the palate and the eye. This exhibition is the blend of the art of cooking and the artistry of quilting. Gastronomy showcases over 30 quilts created by members of the Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. (SAQA) and juried by sisters and curators, Cecilia and Merce Gonzalez Desedamasis.
This is the first time that the Ellen Noël Art Museum has hosted an exhibition by SAQA. They are a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the art quilt: "a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure." Their vision is that the art quilt is universally respected as a fine art medium. Over the past 30 years, SAQA has grown into a dynamic and active community of over 4,000 artists, curators, collectors, and art professionals located around the world.
